Chip Privacy Policy

Chip (“the app”, “we”, “our”) is built by Jager Development. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and what you can do about it. Chip is designed to respect your privacy by default — we collect as little as possible, and nothing that identifies you personally.

What stays on your device

Almost everything. The following data is stored locally and, if you opt in to iCloud sync, synced to your own private iCloud account — we never see it:

Your chips (tasks), their categories, completion times, and history
Your streak and stats
Which apps you’ve chosen to block during focus sessions
Your preferences and settings

iCloud sync uses Apple’s CloudKit private database. That data lives in your personal iCloud storage and is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

What we collect

We use Mixpanel for product analytics — to understand which features people use and where they get stuck, so we can improve the app. Mixpanel collects:

Anonymous device identifier — a random UUID generated on your device. It is not tied to your Apple ID, email, name, or phone number. We never call Mixpanel’s identify function with personal info.
Product interaction events — things like “chip added”, “chip completed”, “paywall shown”, along with non-identifying properties such as the category (e.g. self-care, work) and ordinal (1st chip of the day, 2nd, etc.). We do not send the text of your chips, the apps you block, or anything you type into the app.
Basic device info — app version, iOS version, device model.

This data is not linked to your identity and is not used for tracking across other apps or websites. Chip does not integrate with any ad network and does not share data with data brokers. This is why Chip does not show an App Tracking Transparency prompt.

Subscriptions

Chip Pro is an in-app subscription sold and managed by Apple via StoreKit. Apple handles payment, billing, and renewal — we never see your credit card, billing address, or Apple ID. We only receive a verified confirmation that your subscription is active, stored on your device. See Apple’s Media Services terms for details.

Screen Time & Focus Mode

When you enable Focus Mode, Chip asks for Screen Time authorization so it can shield the apps you choose while a chip is active. This uses Apple’s Family Controls and Managed Settings frameworks. The list of apps you choose to block is represented by opaque tokens that stay entirely on your device — we never receive them, and Apple does not share them with us.

What we do not collect

Your name, email, phone number, or address
Your Apple ID or any account credentials
Your exact location (we have also disabled Mixpanel’s IP-based geolocation)
Your contacts, photos, calendar, or health data
Your chip titles or any text you type in the app
Which specific apps you’ve chosen to block
Crash logs or diagnostics beyond what Apple itself provides

Your choices

Opt out of analytics. Open Settings inside Chip and turn off “Analytics”. No further events will be sent to Mixpanel from your device.
Opt out of iCloud sync. Turn off iCloud sync in Settings and your data will only live on the current device.
Delete your data. Delete Chip to remove all local data. If you had iCloud sync on, you can delete Chip’s data from Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Account Storage on your device.

Children

Chip is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used Chip and want the anonymous analytics for that install removed, contact us and we’ll do our best to help — though because the analytics are not tied to an identifiable person, we may not be able to locate the specific records.

Data retention

Anonymous analytics events in Mixpanel are retained for up to 12 months. On-device and iCloud data is retained until you delete it.

International users

Chip is available worldwide. Analytics events are processed by Mixpanel, which may store data on servers outside your country of residence. By using Chip, you consent to this processing. If you are in the EU/UK, the legal basis for the limited analytics we collect is our legitimate interest in improving the app — you can object at any time by turning off analytics in Settings.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change what Chip collects, we’ll update this page and the “Last updated” date above. For significant changes we’ll also surface a notice inside the app.
